Welcome to Introduction to Information Design

Tulips

Information Design is the art and science of communication in its many forms. Introduction to Information Design examines the principles and application of Information Design as it is expressed in many fields, such as computer science, advertising, graphic design, instructional design, psychology and usability. Each of these disciplines applies the underlying principles of Information Design to achieve certain goals, such as instructional design to teach, usability to facilitate, graphic design to inform, and advertising to persuade. Several of these areas are explored briefly in this paper. Any one of these areas contains a wealth of information and merits more thorough exploration than is possible within the scope of this paper. The goal of this paper is to provide an overview to encourage the reader to pursue further research into any, or all, of these areas.
