I've really enjoyed exploring all the dimensions of Information Design. It becomes quite apparent that the more I learn, there is always still more to explore and understand. It was difficult to try to summarize just a few aspects of each of the topics that I included in this "Introduction to Information Design." It would be possible to write a book on any one of the subjects which were covered only briefly.
Many of these areas, such as graphic design, user interface design and web development I have developed in-depth knowledge through my professional experiences. It would be helpful and interesting to explore extensively in the techniques and technologies of these areas alone. However, it seemed more important to cover each area equally and not provide more in-depth information on any one subject in particular. I hope that this brief introduction is a good starting point for study into any of the subjects introduced here.
Overall, I think I am most intrigued by the use of visualizations in the sciences, and will probably concentrate my efforts in that direction going forward. I think in particular I would like to explore the boundries of human perception capabilities, and try to visualize how the world might appear were humans able to perceive a spectrum wider than currently possible without the assistance of instrumentation.
Our worldview is defined by our ability to perceive phenomena in the world. What we can not perceive, we imagine - and that is the most powerful application of Information Design - the ability to expand our realities into the infinitely small and the exceptionally large. In the end, it is all relative to one's perspective. I hope to increase my perspective to no longer be limited by scale. Perhaps that is enlightenment - in a scientific sense.
I hope you have enjoyed reading my website about Information Design. •
